To build a road in Shikohpur, 40 foot tall Aravali hillock that is currently protected as Aravali forest land will be levelled.
According to an official statement, the Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) has been permitted by the Union environment ministry to level the hill in Shikohpur village in order to build a master road that will smooth travel between sectors 77 and 79 Gurgaon.
The 3.8 km master road stretch will link Shikhopur and numerous housing societies in the adjoining areas, including Mapsko Mount Ville, Godrej Aria, Supertech Araville, and Monsoon Breeze. The hillock is located on a 180-meter stretch of the road project, which is over half finished, according to them.
Road construction is going very fast after getting approval for levelling the Aravali range hillock from the Union ministry of environment, and forest, said Abhinav Verma, Executive Engineer GMDA.
The GMDA authority is trying to get in touch with the mining department to auction the stones after cutting the highland. As you know that mining activities are strictly prohibited in Gurugram, Nuh, and Faridabad districts in South Haryana.
Parts of the Aravali range disallow the Rajasthan desert and Delhi-eastward NCR’s expansion. The 1992 Aravali Notification protects all the non-forest activities in the Aravali range.
According to the land records, the elevated portion of land will be designated as this Aravali range is classified as a “gair mumkin pahar,” or uncultivable hill. The Aravali Notification, 1992 allows the case-by-case exclusion basis under government approval.
The Notification only allows the infrastructure growth, modernization of industry, electrification, and creation of farmhouses, outhouses and community centers, and others in the Aravali forest range.
The authorities must apply to the Union environment ministry with the complete details of the project and environment impact assessment and management plan if you want to seek approval for starting any non-forest activity.
GMDA applied for the exemption for the master road project in the year 2019 but got the MOEF approval in January 2023.
