The Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) announced that construction on a key stretch of the master sector dividing the road passing through sectors 77, 78-78A, and 79-79A would begin within 15 days. It was stated that a hillock would be cleared to make way for sector road construction.
GMDA officers stated that they got permission to remove the hillock in January 2023 and have already initiated the process of auctioning off the stones from the hillock, which will be completed within a week.
The authority expects the stones to be removed within the next 10 to 12 days and that construction work will begin by the end of march. Around 50,000 metric tonnes of stones will be auctioned and removed in a fortnight, and the road construction will begin.
As per earlier reports, the work on the 3.48-kilometer-long road has been paused due to the presence of a hillock in Shikohpur village. According to GMDA officials, it could not be removed earlier because it required special environmental ministry permission.
Now, we have all the permissions to remove the hillock and will proceed to auction the stones. The stones will most likely be removed from the site within the next 10 to 15 days. “We plan to begin road construction work by the end of March,” said Abhinav Verma, GMDA executive engineer.
The 3.48-kilometer road will be connected to another PWD road from the Naurangpur village side. Residents of Naurangpur, Shikohpur, and a number of residential colonies in these sectors will benefit from the project once it is finished.
According to GMDA officials, the hillock is part of the protected Aravallis forest area, and the authority had to seek permission from the Union environment ministry to remove it.
Sudhir Rajpal, the GMDA’s chief executive officer, visited the Aravalli hillock site in January 2023 and asked officials to accelerate work and complete the road construction as soon as possible. He also directed that all barriers to road construction be removed soon.
