The Department of Town and Country Planning (DTCP) has sealed 40 such establishments and given sealing warnings to over 200 structures in a month as part of a massive crackdown on illegal marketing of stilt-plus-four houses in authorized colonies in the city.
Today, the Enforcement Wing sealed 18 premises in DLF complexes where commercial activities such as guest houses and spas were being run from various floors. The owners had received a show-cause notice from the department.
DLF Phases I to V, Sushant Lok Phases I, II, and III, South City I and II, Uppal South End, Vipul World, and Palam Vihar have all received warnings. Manish Yadav, District Town Planner (Enforcement), stated that commercial operations in residential zones will be prohibited, and that survey teams have been formed in accordance with the directions of DTCP.
We have issued approximately 700 show-cause notices to owners of residential spaces with commercial units operating in violation of rules. A total of 8 units have been sealed, and 200 more will be targeted by the end of this month.
“We have also recommended that such houses’ electricity and water connections be disconnected immediately,” Yadav said. The agency maintains that, in addition to increasing traffic congestion in residential neighbourhoods, commercial operations place significant strain on existing power, water, and sewage connections.
The agency is inundated with complaints from residents of private colonies about concerns caused by these business establishments. Meanwhile, resident welfare organizations have called for similar measures in HSVP sectors such as 14, 15, 17, 31, 45, 46, 56, and so on, where the bulk of stilt-plus-four dwellings were commercial operations.
