The GMDA intends to redevelop Southern Peripheral Road (SPR) by building eight flyovers and an underpass along the 12-kilometer stretch. This comes five months after Manohar Lal Khattar directed GMDA officials to expand the Golf Course Road (Extension) upgrade plan to include the entire SPR.

At the ninth Authority meeting in December, Khattar, who is also the GMDA chairman, proposed building five flyovers between the Ghata T-point and Vatika Chowk, a 6 km stretch of SPR also known as Golf Course Road (Extension).

When presented with the proposal, the chairman directed that the project be expanded to include the entire stretch of SPR up to NH-8.

According to GMDA officials, in addition to the eight proposed flyovers, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) will build an underpass at Vatika Chowk, which will improve traffic flow along the stretch.

“The new proposal we have put together calls for the construction of eight flyovers on the stretch from Ghata T-point to NH-8.” This proposal will be presented to the chairman at the next authority meeting, which should take place in the coming weeks.

If the proposal is approved, the project will take approximately 30 months to complete once construction begins,” according to a senior GMDA official.

8 Flyovers Planned on Stretch

While five flyovers will be built in accordance with the previous proposal — one at the Golf Course Road T-point, Kadarpur intersection, Pioneer Park traffic signal, the intersection near Splendor Tower, and the St Xavier’s High School intersection — the other three will be built at Tulip Chowk, Andour Heights Road intersection, and the point where the road dividing sectors 75 and 75A intersects with the road dividing sectors 74 and 74A.

“Aside from these flyovers, an underpass at Vatika Chowk is already planned.” “NHAI, which is already building the Sohna elevated road that passes through the intersection,” the official said.

The NHAI confirmed the news. “The Sohna elevated road will be built beneath the underpass, connecting both sides of the SPR across Vatika Chowk.” However, it will be completely independent and bidirectional, with no connection to the elevated road,” said an NHAI official.
