The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) took over the maintenance and upgradation of the National Highway (NH-48) stretch from Kherki Daula to Bawal. The 65-kilometer stretch is in poor condition in many places, and a number of road improvement projects initiated by the authority have been postponed.

The work of resurfacing the road will initially be assigned to the Rewari PIU (project implementation unit). At the same time, a decision on upgrading major structures will be made at the headquarters, according to NHAI officials familiar with the situation.

Daily commuters and residents have repeatedly raised the issue of poor maintenance of the Delhi-Jaipur highway (NH-48) and the slow construction of flyovers and underpasses.

According to sources, Union minister and Gurugram Member of Parliament (MP) Rao Inderjit Singh raised the issue with Union transport minister Nitin Gadkari, which resulted in a review of the ongoing works.

According to NHAI senior manager Vikas Mittal, the process of handing over the highway stretch maintenance began in Haryana. We have taken over maintenance of the 65-kilometer stretch from Kherki Daula to Bawal.

The initial focus will be on speeding up road overlaying work and improving maintenance. The decision on structural work transfer will be made at the NHAI headquarters. The Rewari PIU is already working on the Gurugram-Rewari highway project.

In 2021, the NHAI issued a tender for major improvement works on the Delhi-Jaipur highway between Kherki Daula and Jaipur. The overall plan includes four major bridges, five road overbridges, seven minor bridges, six grade separators, and 11 bus bays.

The project was supposed to be completed in 18 months, but work was delayed. Apart from repairing the highway, the NHAI is constructing flyovers at Manesar, Bilaspur, and Kapriwas and a bypass road at Dharuhera to alleviate traffic congestion.
