Residents claim that despite receiving approval for a water connection in March of this year, work on laying a pipeline in Sector 38 has yet to begin. They claim that every summer, a severe water crisis occurs, leaving some pockets without water for days.
So, after numerous requests, the GMDA finally approved an additional water connection in March, but infrastructure work has yet to begin. They claimed that more was needed to be done to expedite the work despite repeated requests.
Locals pointed out that the infrastructure in the colony was built in 1998 and that with the increased FAR and population, the current framework is unable to meet demand. Water scarcity has been a recurring issue in the sector, according to Ashok Yadav, RWA president.
“After getting the new connection, we thought our water woes would be resolved, but the work on laying the pipeline has not been started yet. The MCG has already approved Rs 1.03 crores for the construction of the pipeline from Sector 47 to the Sector 38 boosting station. If the pipeline is not built soon, we will face another crisis this summer,” Yadav said.
“My house is located at the end, so every summer, we face a water crisis,” said Dahiya, a resident. Not only do I suffer, but more than 200 families in the sector are forced to buy water from private tankers. Despite paying all of the civic body’s taxes, we are facing such water crisis.
We don’t understand why, after nine months of connection, there has been no progress in laying the pipeline. Meanwhile, a senior MCG official confirmed Sunday that the department had granted technical approval. “We are in the process of floating the tender for laying the pipeline, and work will begin as soon as possible,” said the senior MCG official.
