The upcoming cabinet meetings of the state and federal governments may put two proposed metro lines for the city on the agenda, where the present urban rail network is limited to 17 kilometres and has not been extended since 2017. One of the two planned routes is an 8.4-kilometer-long corridor.
Gurugram runs from Palam Vihar to Dwarka in Delhi. The metro line for intra-city transportation will be 29.8 kilometres long. Cyber City and Huda City Center Both projects have been conceptualised but are at various levels of approval.
The chief minister reviewed the first version of the DPR in May, advising that the last 1.5 kilometres of the corridor in Delhi be built subterranean. Officials from the HMRTC declined to comment on whether the authorized DPR is for the alteration.
How This Intra-City Metro Line Is Planned In Initial Phases
In the initial proposal, four stations – Rezang La Chowk, Chuma, Sector 110, and Sector 111 – were to be built in Gurugram encompassing 4.4 km, with the remaining three in the capital covering Dwarka (Sector 28), Dwarka (Sector 25), and Dwarka (Sector 21).
The state government must then approve the project. According to a top HMRTC official, “the plan will now be presented to the Haryana Cabinet, and if approved, it will be forwarded to the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs” (MOHUA).
It’ll pass.” He went on to say that central government officials have been briefed on the Delhi-Gurugram corridor and that “in theory, they agreed that it is a decent route.”
Although the state cabinet approved the intra-city metro line in August 2020, the Union Housing Ministry has been reviewing the DPR for several months. It was originally provided to the government in February of last year, but the Institute of Urban Transport (MOUD) under the Ministry of Urban Development sought explanation in September 2021.
The Elevated Huda City Center-Cyber City Metro Line Will Have 26 Stops
The lengthy approvals process was repeated with a new proposal, and the DPR was sent to the MoHUA and the Public Investment Board (PIB) for approval. The PIB evaluates the ministries’ investment plans under the central government.
“As per the most recent bulletin, the PIB is now considering the DPR.” It will be presented to the Union Cabinet once it has been accepted. “We are quite optimistic that approval will be granted soon,” added the official.
According to the DPR, the elevated Huda City Center-Cyber City line will feature 27 stops. Sector 45, Cyber Park, Sector 47, Subhash Chowk, Sector 48, Sector 72A, Hero Honda Chowk, Sector 10, Sector 37, Basai Village, Sector 9, 7, 4 & 5, Ashok Vihar, Sector 3, Bajghera Road, Palam Vihar Extension, Palam Vihar, Sector 23A, Sector 22, and Udyam Vihar-4, -5 & -6 are among the busiest intersections and densely populated areas.
Gurugram now has two metro lines: 5.3 km of Delhi Metro’s Yellow Line and 11.7 km of Rapid Metro Line (Cyber City to Golf Course Road).
