Mukesh Ambani, India’s richest person, has quickly transformed Reliance Industries Limited into a business conglomerate with the most diverse interests. RIL subsidiary Model Economic Township Limited, or MET City, is currently building a world-class smart city from the ground up near the national capital region.
The new greenfield city is being developed in Jhajjar Haryana near Gurugram, a key economic region in the Delhi NCR. The city is being built on an 8,000-acre plot of land. Infrastructure such as a 220 KV power substation, a water supply network and treatment plant, and a comprehensive road network are already in place.
Nihon Kohden, Panasonic, Denso, and T-Suzuki are currently located in the new Reliance smart city. Nihon Kohden’s under-construction facility in India will be the company’s largest manufacturing unit. MET City is also an example of Japan Industrial Township.
MET City CEO SV Goyal says, the company has more than 400 industrial clients. They created a “walk-to-work masterplan” in one of “North India’s fastest growing Greenfield Smart Cities.” Companies that set up shop in the city can also take advantage of plug-and-play infrastructure.
The new Reliance city offers excellent connectivity to Delhi, Gurugram, Noida, and other NCR cities. The city is tactically located along the Kundli Manesar Palwal (KMP) Expressway, close to the IGI International Airport in New Delhi. It will be linked by rail to the Delhi Mumbai Industrial Corridor’s Dedicated Freight Corridor (DFC).
According to the MET City website, “ready availability of freehold land for immediate development” is available. In terms of educational facilities, the city is served by the SGT University and The Sehwag International School (run by former cricketer Virender Sehwag) and the AIIMS facility is also nearby.
