The goal of the Haryana Mass Rapid Transport Corporation (HMRTC) is to improve metro connectivity throughout the state by increasing its efforts. The objective is to improve accessibility for locals generally and to fortify public transit choices.

Chief Secretary Sanjeev Kaushal presided over a recent HMRTC board meeting when a noteworthy statement was made. The building of a metro line linking Delhi with the National Cancer Institute (NCI) at Badsa, in the Jhajjar district, has received approval from the state government. This expansion might establish a vital link for healthcare access between NCI Badsa and AIIMS New Delhi.

In order to estimate possible ridership and guarantee the project’s sustainability, the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) has authorized a new ridership evaluation conducted by renowned consulting firm M/s RITES.

HMRTC Launched Many Projects For Metro Expansion In Haryana

In order to meet the increasing demand for transportation, HMRTC is aggressively pursuing a number of metro extension projects inside Haryana in addition to the Delhi-NCR connection:

Ballabhgarh-Palwal Line: An approximately 25-kilometer stretch of the current metro line would be extended from Ballabhgarh to Palwal, according to a techno-feasibility study already under progress. The purpose of this expansion is to meet these emerging communities’ growing transportation demands.

Feasibility Study for Bahadurgarh-Asoudha: This study assesses ridership and determines whether there is a need for a metro line that connects Bahadurgarh and Asoudha. This investigation is being led by M/s RITES, and a report is expected by April 15, 2024.

Gurugram Metro Rail Project Gains Strength

Residents of Gurugram may celebrate a major advancement in the Gurugram Metro Rail Project. The building of a metro line to connect Cyber City and Millennium City Center has received approval from the Indian government. With the construction of this line, Gurugram’s intra-city connection would be greatly enhanced, helping many of the city’s citizens with their daily commutes.

In February 2024, Prime Minister Narendra Modi placed the project’s cornerstone. A company called Gurugram Metro Rail Limited (GMRL) has been established to supervise the project’s execution. Important components like geotechnical studies and comprehensive design consulting are already the subject of tenders.

Additionally, the viability of utilizing the bigger 2.9-meter coaches in Gurugram’s current Rapid Metro system is being studied. This modification might improve the metro network’s overall efficiency and passenger capacity.

Improvements To The Chandigarh Tricity MRTS Project

There were also developments in the Chandigarh Tricity MRTS project disclosed at the HMRTC board meeting. The addition of a direct link from the Chandigarh Railway Station to the main metro corridor significantly altered this project by facilitating the quicker and more comfortable transition for passengers between train and metro services.

The project’s network has also been extended by 4 km, connecting Sector 20 Panchkula and ISBT Zirakpur. Within the Tricity area, this stretch enhances regional connection even further. For this project, MoHUA has also suggested using a 2-coach metro system, offering a potentially economical and successful option.

The metro extension projects are a step in the right direction toward building a more resilient and extensive public transportation system throughout the state. These programs seek to reduce traffic, enhance connectivity, and give locals access to more practical and environmentally friendly forms of transportation.
