The town and country planning department (DTCP) has begun a survey to identify illegal colonies in Sohna and surrounding areas.

So far, the team has discovered 12 illegal colonies. On the orders of DTCP director TL Satyaprakash, the survey is being conducted jointly by district town planners from the enforcement wing and headquarters.

The emergence of illegal colonies in Sohna and surrounding areas is posing a challenge to civic authorities in terms of developing infrastructure and amenities for newly created sectors.

The Haryana Government has to form new sectors in Sohna, Bhondsi, Farrukhnagar, and connecting areas included in the Gurgaon master plan 2031. These illegal colonies are obstructing the development of proposed sectors.

DTCP identified 12 illegally constructed colonies on Sohna Road, Jhajjar-Farrukhnagar Road, and the Farrukhnagar Bypass. These colonies will be razed within a month, and land will be freed for upcoming infrastructure developments.

The Haryana Government has issued guidelines for illegal colonies urbanised before June 2022, and DTCP is working to regularise these colonies as much as possible.

Landowners must apply for a no-objection certificate (NOC) under the new registry system in order to register areas covered by Section 7A of the Haryana Development and Regulation of Urban Areas Act, 1975.

The registration of a sale deed for a plot of less than one acre is not permitted without a NOC from DTCP. Violation of the Act is a punishable offence with a maximum sentence of three years in prison.

Hundreds of acres of prime agricultural land have been converted into illegal colonies in these areas over the last two years.

DTCP freed approximately 1,000 acres of land in and around the city in recent years, but several such colonies still exist in these areas, many of which resurfaced after being cleared.
