Earlier the deadline of Rs. 81.38 crore project is estimated to compete in 2020 but the shifting utilities, pandemic lockdowns and construction barriers slowed down the work. The Atul Kataria Chowk is become nightmare for daily Gurgaon commutes because of traffic jams and road obstructions.

Here Are Some Major Obstacles To Delay The Project

Originally the flyover is scheduled to be finished in November 2019, the underpass between Sheetla Mata Mandir and Maharana Pratap Chowk and the flyover between the Gurgaon bus stop and Kapashera were delayed until May 2021 due to various obstacles.

The flyover and underpass at Atul Kataria Chowk are anticipated to open to the public by mid-June, according to representatives of the Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA), regardless of missing previous deadlines.

Lockdowns brought on by the epidemic are the reason why prohibitions on building work because of pollution in the National Capital Region and a design conflict; the deadline was later pushed out to March 2022 from December 31, 2021.

The 731-meter-long, four-lane flyover between the Gurgaon bus stand and Kapashera border is expected to be completely operational by mid-June. Later this month, vehicles from Delhi will be able to use the left side of the flyover.

The 642-meter-long, four-lane, bi-directional underpass is being built from the Sheetla Mata Mandir side toward Maharana Pratap Chowk, as construction is already underway. Officials claim that although construction on the approach towards the Maharana Pratap Chowk side is finished, work is still ongoing on the approach towards the Sheetla Mata Mandir side and the road within the tunnel.

The master drain pipe is currently being moved from the underpass to the service road segment toward Sheetla Mandir, and it will be finished by the end of the month. Following the construction of the service road over the drain to redirect traffic, work on the underpass in this section will once again begin.

As the underpass’s wall and slab roof have both been built. The project’s development was discussed in a meeting with Public Works Department (PWD) representatives and authority engineer by GMDA. The Atul Kataria Chowk is a significant and well-known intersection in the city, and the development will play a key role in eliminating traffic dangers there.

What Are The Significance Of Atul Kataria Flyover In Gurgaon

The Atul Kataria crossroads has a high volume of traffic and is one of the busiest areas in the city. The newly constructed flyover and underpass would improve traffic flow and reduce congestion for residents travelling to the Dwarka Expressway, Gurgaon Railway Station, bus stop, Kapashera border, Sheetla Mata Temple, Signature Tower, and other residential and business areas of Gurgaon.

Atul Kataria Chowk’s need for a flyover or an underpass was brought up after the city’s then-mayor Vimal Yadav criticised plans to widen Old Delhi-Gurgaon Road into a six-lane section on the grounds that it doesn’t address two major issues for commuters: traffic at Atul Kataria Chowk and a lack of space for heavy trailers leaving the Maruti factory to turn around.

In 2015, the government separately approved upgrading a 7.5 km section of the Old Delhi–Gurgaon route without including a flyover or underpass at Atul Kataria Chowk. It consists of a crossing, a flyover and an underpass had to be built before opening.

Because of the nearby Maruti plant, there is a lot of traffic congestion on the chowk due to the heavy traffic of huge commercial cars. Additionally, this crossroads serves as a vital link between Old and New Gurgaon “explained Sector 14 resident.
